Many of us benefit from tea tree-based skincare products to help with calming blemishes and providing relief from irritation. Tea tree is known for its anti-inflammtory, anti-microbial and healing properties. During the past couple of months, I’ve had the privilege to extensively test iUNIK‘s Tea Tree Relief Serum sent by the brand.
EWG Ratings (image from iUNIK)
The star ingredients are:
- 67% tea tree water instead of purified water for skin soothing and moisturizing;
- 19.5% Centella Asiatica leaf extract for skin healing;
- Six sprout extracts (rapeseed, broccoli, wheat, alfalfa, radish and cabbage) for nutrition and moisture; and
- Niacinamide + adenosine for whitening and anti-aging.
The serum comes in a sturdy glass bottle with a dropper. There is 50ml of tea tree and centella goodness inside, which is considerably more than most serums in the market (30ml). The information on the bottle and box is printed in English, which I greatly appreciate. I also like that there’s a stopper on the bottle opening to help wipe off any excess serum from the dropper.
The serum has a light green color from the bottle, but when you pour it out and apply it on the skin, it looks colorless. I can’t detect any scent from the serum at all, so those who prefer fragrance-free or unscented products will like this aspect. Its being scent-free actually surprised me because I was expecting a strong tea tree scent, but I guess using tea tree leaf water has something to do with it. The serum is watery but has a bit of thickness or viscosity to it.
I use this almost everyday, twice a day. I use this after my toner and essence step. When using serums, I dispense 3 drops from the dropper onto my palm; dot little amounts of the product on my cheeks, forehead, nose and chin; rub the remaining product on my fingers, and; massage the product in. This way, I’m sure to get an (almost) even coverage of product across my face.
You can also opt to mix this in with your moisturizer. I find that this mixes in wonderfully with most of my moisturizers and makes them absorb a little quicker on my skin.
I like how this serum makes my skin hydrated and soothed. Ever since I started using this, I’ve been getting less breakouts, and if I do they seem smaller. However, I can’t solely attribute that to the serum because I use other actives, but I’d like to believe that the serum helps in preventing breakouts. Sometimes, I pick on acne and they leave me with small wounds, and while using this serum I notice them getting healed faster. I use this with my Tokstick as well, which I am still in the process of testing as of this writing.
I guess a drawback that I can say about this is that the serum doesn’t get absorbed instantly on my skin. After applying, it sits there for a minute or two so it’s not exactly friendly when I’m in a rush. I personally don’t have issues with waiting a couple of minutes before applying my next step, which is a moisturizer. However, despite the short wait time, it gets absorbed just fine without any residue or tackiness.
Would I repurchase? Yes! It sucks though because local online retailers don’t carry iUNIK products, but I wouldn’t mind ordering online from overseas. I should mention that it’s quite affordable at $15.99 per bottle (or $26.99 for two bottles if you want to hoard lol). It’s also available in Sweet Corea for a cheaper price at ₩11,400 or $10.52. I’m also hoping to compare this with the Leegeehaam/LJH Tea Tree 90 Essence, which is another famous tea tree product.
Thank you again for sending me this, iUNIK!
